The retained CALMET 6.5.0 source and actual run controls support a bounded comparison of the model’s terrain-blocking proxy with archived vertical structure. These checks concern definitions and interpretation; they do not establish physical accuracy.
| Item | Verified interpretation |
|---|---|
| Temperature | Current endpoint-derived model temperature; TEMP2D is refreshed from the lowest prepared layer before terrain blocking. |
| Height preparation | Native temperatures are mapped to height above each native ground surface before horizontal weighting. The new comparison uses a common absolute height and therefore a different operator. |
| Lapse rate | IUPT=-1 retains spatially local gradients, normally between 10 and 200 m. A domain average is a separate option. |
| Convective history | The incoming mixing-height state can trigger a −0.0098 K/m override. The present captures do not contain the complete incoming mixing-height and thermal history. |
| Terrain stability | GAMMA + 0.01 is reused at all heights. The convective override leaves a small positive value. |
| Potential temperature | The new dry diagnostic uses the retained CALWRF conversion exponent 287.04/1004. Other CALMET potential-temperature calculations use 0.286. |
| Evidence scope | Native profiles share the upstream weather model. Local interval stability is not automatically the effective whole-obstacle stability required for blocking. |
The EPA’s December 2016 IWAQM reassessment supplies relevant historical discussion of diagnostic wind adjustments. Its long-range US scope and version-specific descriptions are retained. In particular, its domain-average lapse-rate discussion must not be transferred to our spatially local option. It is neither a B.C. permit determination nor a validation of these runs.
The source review records 23 routine/line locators and source hashes, checks the three existing control sets, and reviews the public interpretation. The numerical comparison is independently checked separately. Source review checks, source provenance, full comparison.
Original model sources: released CALMET 6.5.0, CALPUFF system downloads. Exact local source copies and controls are bound by hashes in the provenance record; filenames are reproduction identifiers, not claims that all binaries used by the upstream weather provider have been recovered.
